Complete the FAFSA Application online.
Students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can complete the FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. Mercer University’s Federal School code is 001580. New students are encouraged to begin the financial aid process the same day you submit your application for admission to Mercer University.
Make sure you are completing the FAFSA for the correct academic year. The fall term is usually the first term of the academic year for financial aid purposes at Mercer.
- Fall 2013, Spring 2014 and Summer 2014: Complete 2013–2014 FAFSA
- Fall 2014, Spring 2015 and Summer 2015: Complete 2014–2015 FAFSA
To prevent processing delays, all students are encouraged to utilize the IRS Data Retrieval Tool on the FAFSA whenever possible. The IRS Data Retrieval tool allows you to retrieve filed tax return data directly from the IRS database for use on your FAFSA. Tax data may be available for retrieval on the FAFSA within:
- 3 weeks if taxes were filed electronically
- 8 weeks if a paper tax return was filed by mail.
Review the Student Aid Report (SAR)
After you complete the FAFSA, you will receive an email or postal mail regarding your Student Aid Report (SAR). Review the SAR to make sure it is correct and complete. If any information on the SAR is incorrect, make corrections according to the instructions on the Department of Education’s FAFSA web site. If you do not receive your SAR or if you need another copy, go to www.fafsa.ed.gov or call 800.433.3243.
The Financial Aid Office will use the SAR data to determine your financial aid eligibility. Please note: The Office of Student Financial Planning (OSFAP) will only package financial aid for fully admitted students. Student must be at least half-time to receive most types of financial aid. Submit Requested Documentation to the OSFP.
If additional information is required, an email notification will be sent to your registered Mercer email address. You should also check for My Documents on the student portal, My Mercer, for Requested/Required items. Financial aid will not be awarded until all required information is received, processed, and your financial aid file is complete.
Once you have been admitted to the University and your financial aid file is complete, you will receive an award notification via email.
