Financial Aid Disbursement Processes

Pell Grants

  • Awarded up to full‐time (12 credit hours) each semester.
  • Awarded to eligible undergraduate students only.
  • Pays towards direct charges of tuition, fees, room, and board first.
  • Must meet all federal eligibility requirements.

Federal Loans

Institutional Aid

  • Must meet minimum enrollment requirements.
  • Undergraduate merit scholarships require active enrollment in at least 12 credit hours, or full-time status.
  • Student must meet all Mercer University eligibility requirements based on the award.
  • Pays towards any direct charge of tuition, fees, room, and board and is not refundable.

State Aid

  • Must meet the minimum enrollment requirements as set by the GA Student Finance Commission for each program.
  • Pays towards any direct charges of tuition, fees, room and board first, with the exception of the HOPE Scholarship and Zell Miller Scholarship which are required to be paid towards tuition only.
  • Must meet all State eligibility requirements.

Aid from Outside Sources

  • Outside scholarships disburse according to the Financial Aid Office’s standard disbursement policy. 
  • All Outside scholarships are split evenly between the fall and spring semester, unless otherwise noted by the organization or donor.
  • The scholarship organization or donor determines the scholarship amount, what charges the scholarship may cover, and whether any excess aid is refundable to the student.
  • Outside Loans are scheduled to disburse on the disbursement date listed above or 10 days after the loan is certified by the Office of Financial Planning (whichever is later). Private loan funds are applied to the students account once the funding is received from the lender.
